spelling bee winners

The 2016 Middle School Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, December 22nd.  Participants of the spelling bee are in grades six through eight.  We had 45 participants this year.  Mrs. Kristi Musselman and Mrs. Jennifer Klavuhn are the advisors.  The students attended an informational meeting and run-through before the day of the bee to polish their spelling skills.  Clara Frye (grade 7) was the winner spelling the word Chimpanzee correctly.  Abby Mickle (grade 8) was the runner up and Brooke Gochnour and Bailey Koontz (grade 8) tied for third place.  The top three places received a cash prize compliments of the Middle School PTO.

chase-cow Congratulations to Northern Bedford High School Junior Chase Eller for placing first in the National FFA Dairy Showmanship contest.   In June, Chase won the PA State Dairy Handling contest which qualified him to compete in Dairy Handling at the National FFA Convention held Oct. 19-22.  Chase competed on Thursday of that week against the winners from other states from across the country and, at the awards banquet on Friday, was awarded 1st place in the nation.  Three other NBC FFA members have also competed in this same national contest including Chase’s brother Cody last year, Chase’s cousin Jared Helsley in 2014 and Matthew Stanton in 2009.  Jared and Matthew both won the national contest as well.   Other NB FFA members who also attended the convention this year and participated in the many activities included Ashlyn Baker, Madison Over, Skylar O’Neal, and Shelby Over.

n November 8, three Northern Bedford High School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) for their exceptional academic accomplishments at the Bedford County Technical Center in their respective programs.  Megan Beam and Rachel Reuter were inducted into the NTHS for their exemplary work in culinary arts.  Mackenzie Klotz was inducted for her exceptional work in the health assistance field.  Kassi Smith was inducted last year for her outstanding work in culinary arts. The integrity, work ethic, pride, and dedication instilled in these students at Northern Bedford County High School has been reflected in their accomplishments at the Bedford County Technical Center.
